What is Markdown?
Markdown is a lightweight markup language that allows you to write formatted text with simple syntax. Invented by John Gruber in 2004, Markdown has become the de facto standard for documentation in software development. You will find Markdown in README files on GitHub, in wikis, in blogging platforms like Jekyll or Hugo, and in many other applications. The syntax is intentionally kept simple: headings are marked with hash signs, text is bolded or italicized with asterisks, and lists are created with hyphens or numbers.
How do I use the Markdown Preview?
Enter your Markdown text in the input field or load the example. The preview updates live as you type. In the tab area, you can switch between the rendered preview and the HTML source code. With the button, you can copy the generated HTML code directly to your clipboard. In the expandable cheatsheet, you will find an overview of the most important Markdown syntax elements as a reference.
Why render Markdown online?
When writing README files, documentation, or blog posts, an instant preview is essential. Our online tool renders your Markdown live in the browser without requiring you to set up a local environment. This is especially practical when you want to quickly check how your Markdown looks before committing it to a repository or CMS. All processing happens in the browser. No data is sent to any server, keeping your content completely private.
