What is the difference between KB and KiB?
KB uses base 1000 (1 KB = 1000 bytes) while KiB uses base 1024 (1 KiB = 1024 bytes). Operating systems usually use the binary KiB.
Why does my 1 TB drive show only 931 GiB?
Manufacturers use decimal TB (10^12 bytes) while the OS reports binary GiB. 1 TB equals about 931 GiB, that's why the number looks lower.
