What is an XML Formatter?
An XML Formatter converts XML documents into a readable, indented structure. Unformatted XML is often a single long line that is nearly impossible to read. The formatter adds line breaks and indentation so the hierarchical structure becomes immediately apparent. Additionally, our tool validates the XML syntax and displays errors directly. The minification function does the reverse, removing all unnecessary whitespace and line breaks to reduce file size. This is particularly useful when working with SOAP services, configuration files, or data exports.
How do I use the XML Formatter?
Paste your XML into the input field and click "Format" for an indented display or "Minify" for a compact version. In the tree view, you can expand and collapse individual elements to easily navigate complex XML structures. Use "Expand All" and "Collapse All" to control all nodes simultaneously. The result can be copied with a single click or viewed in fullscreen mode for larger documents.
Why format XML online?
When working with SOAP APIs, configuration files, or data exports, you constantly encounter XML data. Our formatter makes it instantly readable with syntax highlighting for tags, attributes, and values. Everything runs locally in your browser, and no data is transmitted to any server. This makes it ideal for developers, QA testers, and anyone who regularly works with XML data and needs a quick, private formatting solution.
