What is a YAML Formatter?
A YAML Formatter transforms unstructured or poorly readable YAML into a clean, consistently indented form. YAML (YAML Ain't Markup Language) is frequently used for configuration files in projects like Docker Compose, Kubernetes Manifests, GitHub Actions Workflows, and Ansible Playbooks. Since YAML relies on indentation, even small formatting errors can lead to hard-to-find problems. A formatter helps prevent such errors and improves readability, making your configuration files more maintainable and less error-prone.
How do I use the YAML Formatter?
Select the desired mode above: "Format" for a nicely displayed output with correct indentation, "Validate" to check the YAML syntax, "YAML to JSON" to convert your YAML into JSON, or "JSON to YAML" for the reverse direction. Then paste your code into the input field and click the corresponding button. If the input is invalid, a detailed error message appears. You can copy the result to your clipboard with a single click.
Why format YAML online?
YAML files are particularly sensitive to indentation errors, since the structure is defined exclusively through whitespace. An online formatter checks and corrects these indentations immediately, without requiring you to install any software. This saves time when troubleshooting CI/CD pipelines, container configurations, and Infrastructure-as-Code files. All processing runs directly in your browser - your data is never sent to a server, ensuring complete privacy.
